Palomar Observatory

The Palomar Observatory’s 200-inch (5.1-meter) Hale Telescope was for decades the largest effective telescope in operation.  Owned and operated by the California Institute of Technology, the Observatory is but one of the many things to do on 6,138 foot Palomar Mountain.

I visited Palomar Observatory when I was 5 years old, with my mom and some friends. At one point I heard a loud ringing/siren noise and mistook it for the closing bell. Not wanting to get locked in, I broke and ran for the exit. I promptly was lost, and it took my mom a very long time to find me. That is all I remember about Palomar Observatory…I probably should go back for another visit.
