This pic is from a few weeks ago when we were out looking for wildflowers in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area.  We had just turned off of the 78 onto Buttes Pass Road that goes to The Slot and Hawk Canyon.

Trona Pinnacles

Trona1

This past weekend I attended The Adventure Portal’s “Run to the Sun” event at Trona Pinnacles near Ridgecrest.  Over 100 groups of overlanding enthusiasts were on hand to make new friends, learn new skills at three excellent training seminars, and explore the interesting topography.  This pic shows the area where I was camped as seen through a hole in one of the rock formations known as “the portal”.

Cuyamaca Rancho State Park

Cuyamaca

Located about 45 miles northeast of San Diego, Cuyamaca Rancho State Park encompasses 26,000 acres and offers over 100 miles of trails to explore.  The park includes 6,512 ft Cuyamaca Peak, San Diego County’s second highest summit. The park was heavily damaged in the 2003 Cedar Fire, as evidenced by the blackened tree trunks in this pic.

Desert Rainbow

Rainbows are always special!  This one graced us with its presence while camped at Borrego Palm Canyon campground in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. This campground makes a great base camp for exploring the park and Borrego Springs.

Arch Rock

Joshuaarch

Arch Rock is a 25-foot natural arch located in Joshua Tree National Park.  It is accessed from the Arch Rock Nature Trail (less than 1/2 mile loop) which begins by campsite #9 in White Tank Campground off the Pinto Basin Road.  You’ll see many other examples of sculpted granite along the way.
