Pines to Palms Highway View

This pic was taken a little southeast of Mountain Center before the turnoff to Lake Hemet on the Pines to Palms Highway (Hwy 74). I love this terrain!

Love the fog/clouds hanging out between all the peaks in this pic from the top of Iron Mountain in Poway.

The Devil’s Slide Trail starts from the parking lot at Humber Park in Idyllwild and rewards you almost immediately with great views. The distance to Saddle Junction (intersection with the Pacific Crest Trail) is 2.5 miles, with an elevation gain of 1,700 ft. From there one can continue on to San Jacinto Peak, the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, the Tahquitz Peak Fire Lookout, or return back to the trailhead.

My first time up Iron Mountain in Poway. Beautiful weather and great views. This pic shows San Vicente Reservoir from the top. 5.8 miles total out and back with 1100 ft elevation gain. Lots of fog/clouds in the distance.

Besides nice “fall color” views of the lake (see previous post), there are also beautiful views with the mountains in the background. Get out and enjoy fall in California!

I found a little fall color at Lake Hemet this past weekend. Several campers were out enjoying the fabulous fall weather.

As a Jeep enthusiast, I couldn’t resist posting this Ricardo Breceda sculpture that is located in Borrego Springs. Just remember to “tread lightly”.

I never tire of this magnificent view of downtown San Diego from across the bay at Cabrillo National Monument.

This pic shows the beautiful exterior of St. Petka Serbian Orthodox Church in Escondido. The Serbian community in North County San Diego traces its history to 1961, with this church building being consecrated in 1991. Services are held in Serbian and Church Slavonic. Too bad that the drought has apparently halted the operation of the fountain.

The “Californian” is the official tall ship of the State of California and was built in 1984 at Spanish Landing in San Diego Bay. It was launched at the 1984 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles and is a replica of the 1847 Revenue Cutter C.W. Lawrence. You can see it at the Maritime Museum in San Diego.
