Devil’s Slide Trail View

devilsslide1

The Devil’s Slide Trail starts from the parking lot at Humber Park in Idyllwild and rewards you almost immediately with great views.  The distance to Saddle Junction (intersection with the Pacific Crest Trail) is 2.5 miles, with an elevation gain of 1,700 ft.  From there one can continue on to San Jacinto Peak, the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, the Tahquitz Peak Fire Lookout, or return back to the trailhead.

Jeepin’

As a Jeep enthusiast, I couldn’t resist posting this Ricardo Breceda sculpture that is located in Borrego Springs.  Just remember to “tread lightly”.

I never tire of this magnificent view of downtown San Diego from across the bay at Cabrillo National Monument.

St. Petka Serbian Orthodox Church

serbia

This pic shows the beautiful exterior of St. Petka Serbian Orthodox Church in Escondido.  The Serbian community in North County San Diego traces its history to 1961, with this church building being consecrated in 1991.  Services are held in Serbian and Church Slavonic.  Too bad that the drought has apparently halted the operation of the fountain.

The “Californian” is the official tall ship of the State of California and was built in 1984 at Spanish Landing in San Diego Bay.  It was launched at the 1984 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles and is a replica of the 1847 Revenue Cutter C.W. Lawrence.  You can see it at the Maritime Museum in San Diego.

If desert riding is your thing, look no further than Ocotillo Wells Vehicular Recreation Area which is adjacent to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.  It offers 85,000 acres of varied terrain to explore on two or four wheels.  Open camping is available throughout the park and no fees are collected for camping or day use.  But ya gotta love dirt!!!

It doesn’t get much better than sitting on a log while viewing Lower Yosemite Falls but it would have been a little chilly and wet on this day!
